Matt’s parents were highly decorated high school athletes who ran track and played all the sports. Matt was a self-decorated film and music athlete who played none of the sports, but if watching a million movies and playing guitar real cool was like winning sports trophies Matt’s a chip off the ‘ol block. In a nutshell, he has a suspicion that he was adopted and he’s watched Die Hard over 200 times.
Matt put himself through film school by working in casting houses where he honed his skill for finding humor in the small, relatable shortcomings of the human condition. Since then he’s worked as a writer, editor, and actor, which has helped define his strength as a director of performance-based comedy.
Matt has directed campaigns for top brands such as Samsung, Hyundai, Mazda, Bank of Montreal, Honda, among others. His debut feature as both writer and director is called ROOM FOR RENT and will premiere in 2017. The film stars many of his comedy heroes such as Mark McKinney, Stephanie Weir, and Brett Gelman.
When Matt’s not watching movies, he’s eating, sleeping, has a family, and jogs on occasion (in case his parents ask). He lives in Toronto with his wife Amy-jo and their son Indiana… yes, as in Jones. He’d also like you to know that he can air drum Led Zeppelin’s ‘Good Times Bad Times’ almost perfectly and totally knows what to do if your office gets hijacked by highly organized German mercenaries…basically, die really hard.
